After divorce, many parents in Minnesota fight over custody of their children. Child support is an integral part of that custody battle, and finances play an important role in determining child support payments. Child support payments depend on the income of the parents, among many other factors.

Recently, one famous actress has personally dealt with this issue. Specifically, the court has finally given its decision on the long ongoing child support custody battle between Halle Berry and her ex-lover. The court has ordered Halle Berry to pay $16,000 per month to ex to support their daughter. The amount was mandated until the daughter turns 19. The couple’s daughter is currently six. Berry and her ex currently share equal custody of their daughter. However, since the last few years, the co-parenting situation has not been ideal. The situation worsened last year when Berry’s ex got into a fight with Berry’s current husband.

The court’s decision also requires that Halle Berry pay $115,000 in retrospective support. This amount is in addition to $300,000 for her ex’s attorney fees.

Child support in Minnesota includes three separate financial obligations that one parent must pay to the other parent. They include basic support, medical support and child care support. As every situation is different, it is advisable to consult an attorney while making decisions for child support custody. Child support can be changed or modified, if the financial situation of the parent’s changes. Attorneys can help parents navigate the complicated legal landscape of family law.
